Natural History Mystery Escape Room Experience:  Dr. Barbour & the Devil’s Corkscrew

Open through December 2019

Step back in time to the 1890’s where you and your group will try to help Nebraska Museum Director Erwin Barbour lay claim to the discovery of the world-famous Agate Fossil Beds. During his first fossil collecting expedition, Barbour was fascinated and distracted by strange, ten-foot-tall spiral sandstone formations known as the “Devil’s Corkscrews”. Preoccupied with the weird corkscrews, Dr. Barbour missed out on the discovery of a lifetime at Agate.

Your group will have one hour to rewrite history by searching Dr. Barbour’s workroom to uncover clues, solve puzzles and decipher codes. Surrounded by vintage lab equipment, real fossils and other authentic natural history objects, your unique escape room challenge is to find the professor’s field book and missing Agate fossils.

This ticket experience is presented in conjunction with the new temporary exhibit the “Museum Builders” which tells the story of two remarkable men, Erwin Barbour and Charles Morrill, who built a Grand Museum in Nebraska.
