Virtual Field Trip Details
Evolution Examined reinforces the main concepts of evolution: variation, inheritance, selection and time by investigating current research with real scientists.
Coming to you from the University of Nebraska State Museum’s Evolution gallery, the VFT includes engaging activities and interaction with studies on finches, flies, and viruses. Arachnids at night and Yellowstone diatoms by day will be highlighted by several University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate students who will share, both live and via video, how they are studying evolution in their work today.
Your students will discover how evolution applies to their personal lives and the environment around us. It truly is Evolution Explored!
Prior to the Virtual Field Trip, your class is asked to conduct an experiment within your classroom that will deepen their VFT experience. By doing the simple activities they will gain an understanding of how environment influences the evolution of species and will explore the four components of evolution. The VFT then builds upon this work. This activity takes 45 minutes.
Book Virus and the Whale with a variety of activities
Diatom activity with microscope slides
Return mail cost averages $10.00.
