Morrill Hall is open to the public with access to the second, third, and fourth floors.
Our first floor will remain closed as our teams continue work on cleaning and evaluation from the flooding that occurred. A timeline for reopening the first floor will be shared when available. However, it will remain closed at least the remainder of this week. The museum will operate with normal hours.
Thank you everyone for your support.

Morrill Hall
Nestled in Lincoln on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, Morrill Hall has been welcoming curious minds since 1927. Visitors can walk through the iconic Elephant Hall featuring “Archie” the world’s largest fully mounted Columbian mammoth fossil, witness active research in our Visible Lab, explore Nebraska’s ancient prairies in Cherish Nebraska, visit space in Mueller Planetarium, and try being the scientist in our Science Exploration Zone. Don’t forget our fun, interactive exhibits featuring dinosaurs, anthropology, insects and more. Open year-round, Morrill Hall is a Smithsonian-affiliated, research-based museum where exploration never stops. Whether you’re a school group, a family, a tourist, or a lifelong learner, we’ve got something you’ll enjoy.
Museum Happenings
Summer Membership Drive
UNSM's summer Community Access Program partner for the membership drive is Lighthouse. For every membership purchased or renewed, the museum will donate 2 free passes to Lighthouse.
The Lighthouse is an accredited After-School Program that offers middle and high school aged-youth academic support, evening meals, and enrichment/recreational activities during non-school hours, Monday through Friday, twelve months a year. It is vitally important for youth to have a safe harbor during the high risk, after-school hours. The Lighthouse After-School Program goal is to increase the likelihood of high school graduation of middle and high school-aged youth by providing high-quality programming.
In Search of Earth's Secrets
New Exhibit | Open 3rd Floor
Explore the newest pop up exhibit at Morrill Hall. Explore what lies beneath the ocean's waters; what the sub-seafloor's rocks and sediments can reveal about Earth's development and ancient history; and how these explorations can help us comprehend phenomena like climate change, earthquakes, and tsunamis. The exhibit is built around research conducted by JOIDES Resolution, the flagship research vessel for the International Ocean Discovery Program.
Blue Star Museums Admission

Morrill Hall is proud to be a Blue Star Museum facility. From now through Labor Day, active duty military and their families, including National Guard and Reserves receive free admission to the museum. Blue Star Museums access is also available at our sister sites: Ashfall Fossil Beds (Royal, Neb.) and Trailside Museum (Crawford, Neb.).
