Archie's Party
Help us celebrate the Museum's birthday!
Date: Saturday, June 14
Time: 9:00am-3:00pm
Cost: Included with admission -- all museum discounts including senior, veteran, Blue Star (Free for active-duty military and/or their families), and Museums for All ($1 with WIC/SNAP/EBT) are valid
Parking: Free in the main lot outside the museum
Advance tickets are not required, but will provide you with a faster check-in for the event.
ACTIVITIES
Join UNSM as we celebrate all aspects of the museum and our different collections with a variety of hands-on activities, crafts, games and more. Below are a few of the activities that will be available during Archie's Party:
- 150+ years of fossils: learn about the history of collecting fossils from when Nebraska was a territory to the present day.
- (AR)chie Experience: Experience how Archie may have looked when he roamed Nebraska through AR technology.
- Arms, Armor, and Anthropology: Anthropology Collection Manager Katelyn McMullin will give a tour of the new Arms, Armor, and Anthropology exhibit.
- Medieval Combat Demonstration: Presented by the Nebraska Swordfighter's Guild, two sword fighting demonstrations will occur in Elephant Hall. Demonstrations will occur at 11am (unarmored techniques) and 1pm (armored techniques).
- Sensory Escape: A quiet room designed to help eliminate sensory stress will be available. The room will include therapy teams from Uplifting Paws.
- Entomology Engineering: A craft which, when finished, will demonstrate how insect wings are capable of flight.
- Passenger Pigeon Origami: Fold paper Passenger Pigeons and learn the importance of conservation.
- Archie Meet and Greet: Archie will roam the halls of the museum throughout the event to greet guests and pose for photos.
- B107.3 Livestream: Join B107.3 as they explore the museum and stream from Elephant Hall from 10am-2pm.
PLANETARIUM
Explore the galaxy inside Mueller Planetarium during Archie's Party. Tickets can be purchased at the museum front desk or in the Discovery Gift Shop. The following shows will be available during the event:
- Cosmic Adventure - 11:00 am | Ages 6+ | Runtime 20 minutes | Take a roller coaster ride from the Moon, through the Solar System, out into the rest of the galaxy, and back.
- Nebraska Skies - 12:00 pm | Ages 6+ | Runtime 20 minutes | Explore Nebraska's summer skies and what you can see at night in this live-narrated show.
- Dream to Fly - 1:00 pm | Ages 7+ | Runtime 20 minutes | Discover the mystery of flight in this poetic story about the history of aviation.
- Nebraska Skies - 2:00 pm | Ages 6+ | Runtime 20 minutes | Explore Nebraska's summer skies and what you can see at night in this live-narrated show.
- Forward! To the Moon - 3:00 pm | Ages 12+ | Runtime 30 minutes | From Crash Test World and MythBusters, Kari Byron takes us beyond Earth toward a sustainable future in space: NASA’s 21st-century Artemis program.
COMMUNITY ACCESS PROGRAM DRIVE
UNSM is supporting the Food Bank of Lincoln as the Archie's Party CAP Collection Drive.
The mission of the Food Bank of Lincoln is to alleviate hunger in Southeast Nebraska.
Visitors can bring a donation and be entered into a drawing to win prizes. Winners will be drawn throughout the day for prizes to collect on site. Grand prize winners will be drawn after the event concludes. Grand prizes include a 1-year museum membership and a Discovery Day Camp registration.
Most needed items (Pop-top lids on cans are encouraged):
