Rocks & Minerals

GRADES
5-8

PROGRAM DURATION 
45 minutes

DESCRIPTION
Look for clues geologists use to understand the formation of different types of rocks. Use microscopes and hand lens to differentiate the three types of rocks: igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE
Working in groups, students will explore three stations. They will make observations, collect and record data, and examine rock specimens in order to understand rock identification.
