National Geographic Photo Ark by Joel Sartore

One Man’s Quest to Raise Awareness to Save Endangered Species!

Located on the museum’s first floor, this internationally acclaimed photographic and video collection celebrates life on Earth (biodiversity) with a strong message of conservation. The Photo Ark project was borne of Nebraska-native Joel Sartore’s quest to create empathy and action in others to protect other living species. A National Geographic wildlife photographer, Joel works to photo document every animal, plant, and other organism threatened with extinction, with touching portraits that capture their uniqueness as a species and personality. He selects species whose conservation status is most in peril and individuals who must be cared for by zoos, botanical gardens, and other conservation organizations. Through changing digital displays, videos, and interactive components, the visitor can ponder the magnificence and fragility of life on our planet.
